Fluorspar companies

The fluorspar market is primarily served by a limited number of major companies, many of which are not exclusively focused on fluorspar. These companies operate in a global landscape where a few key countries dominate production.

Major Global Fluorspar Producers

  • Orbia (Koura Global): Based in Mexico, Orbia is one of the world’s leading fluorspar producers. Its Koura division operates the massive Las Cuevas mine, the largest fluorspar mine globally. The company is highly integrated, using the fluorspar it mines to produce a wide range of downstream fluorochemicals, including refrigerants and materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
  • China Kings Resources Group Co., Ltd.: As China is the dominant fluorspar producer, this company is a major player within the country’s vast fluorspar industry. It is not publicly traded on a major exchange.
  • Masan High-Tech Materials (MHT): Operating the Nui Phao mine in Vietnam, Masan is a significant global supplier of acid-grade fluorspar. While it’s a major fluorspar producer, its business is diversified, with a strong focus on tungsten and other high-tech minerals.
  • MINERSA Group: A Spanish company with a long history in fluorspar production, MINERSA is one of Europe’s largest fluorspar producers. The company also has mining operations in South Africa.
  • Mongolrostsvetmet: The largest fluorspar producer in Mongolia, this state-owned enterprise operates key mines like Bor-Undur. Mongolia has become an increasingly important supplier of fluorspar to the global market, particularly to neighboring countries.

Companies with a Strategic Focus on Fluorspar

With fluorspar being designated as a “critical mineral” by many governments, there’s a push to secure supply chains outside of the traditional producing countries. This has led to the emergence of smaller companies focused on revitalizing fluorspar production in North America and Europe.

  • CleanTech Vanadium Mining Corp. (CleanTech CTV): This North America–focused mining company is developing projects in the historic Illinois-Kentucky Fluorspar District, including the Campbell-Crotser Fluorspar Project in Kentucky. CleanTech CTV aims to re-establish domestic fluorspar production in the United States, reducing import reliance and supporting critical industries such as EV batteries, semiconductors, and steel. The company is publicly traded.
  • Fluorsid S.p.A.: An Italian company that is a major refiner and downstream producer of acid-grade fluorspar and fluorochemicals. It has a presence in Norway and Switzerland and focuses on high-purity fluorine products.
  • Tertiary Minerals (TYM.L): A UK-based exploration company with a focus on fluorspar, among other minerals. The company holds projects in Europe and is working to bring them into production.
