Leading Fluorspar Producing Countries in 2024

China: Maintaining its position as the world’s largest fluorspar producer, China contributed approximately 3.8 million metric tons in 2024. However, the country’s production faced constraints due to nationwide safety inspections and rectification efforts initiated by the Ministry of Natural Resources. These measures, conducted from March through August, led to temporary cessation of operations, mine consolidations, and upgrades aimed at enhancing safety and reducing frequent accidents.

Mexico: As the second-largest producer, Mexico’s fluorspar output was estimated at 0.99 million metric tons in 2024. The country’s consistent production underscores its significant role in the global fluorspar market.

Mongolia: Mongolia produced approximately 0.2 million metric tons of fluorspar in 2024. The nation’s rich mineral reserves and ongoing mining activities contribute to its standing among the top producers.

Vietnam: With an output of around 0.2 million metric tons, Vietnam remains a notable player in the fluorspar industry, leveraging its mineral resources to meet both domestic and international demand.

South Africa: Matching Vietnam’s production, South Africa also contributed 0.2 million metric tons in 2024, highlighting its established mining sector and resource availability.

Market Dynamics and Future Outlook

he fluorspar market in 2024 was influenced by several factors:

  • Regulatory Measures: In China, comprehensive safety inspections led to temporary mine closures and consolidations, impacting global supply.

  • Technological Innovations: Advancements in fluorine chemistry, such as bypassing hydrofluoric acid as an intermediate in fluorochemical production, have the potential to reshape industry practices.

  • Global Demand: The demand for fluorspar remains robust, driven by its essential applications in metallurgy, chemical manufacturing, and construction industries.
